The detained Uighur academic Ilham Tohti was denied food for more than a week and his legs have been shackled, his lawyer says.

Prominent Uighur scholar, Ilham Tohti, was not given food for two 10 day periods and his feet were shackled for over 20 days, according to his lawyers Li Fangping and Wang Yu. They were able to meet him on 26 June for the first time since he was detained.
