My name is Rahima Mahmut, I was born in Ghulja, near the Kazakhstan border, and I am from a large Muslim family. After the end of the Cultural Revolution in 1976, there was a time of relative freedom for Uyghurs, mosques re-opened, and there was the gradual reinstatement of religion and culture for them and other ethnic groups.
