The corner where Heyitkah Mosque stood is now a school and parking lot. Satellite images show 30 other ‘erased’ religious sites, but Xinjiang officials deny any demolitions took place. The vanishing places of worship are seen as a reflection of the growing pressure Chinese authorities have placed on Uygurs and other ethnic minorities in the region.
