China: Accor, Hilton, IHG, Marriott, Wyndham and multiple booking sites linked to Xinjiang hotels with forced-labor risks, according to report

On 17 April 2025, the Uyghur Human Rights Project (UHRP) published a report detailing international and Chinese corporate involvement in Xinjiang’s hotel industry amid ongoing genocide and forced labor risks. The report highlights that Hilton, Accor, IHG, Marriott, and Wyndham operate extensively in the region, with Hilton’s Hampton in Khotan built on the site of a demolished mosque, and Accor’s Grand Mercure Ürümchi Hualing tied to the “Hundred Project” labor transfer program. Wyndham and IHG hotels are located in areas run by the sanctioned Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps (XPCC). Expansion continues, with at least 74 hotels planned or under construction by Accor, Hilton, Hyatt, IHG, Marriott, Minor Hotels, and Wyndham, including a Ritz-Carlton in Ürümchi (Marriott, 2026) and an InterContinental in Ghulja (IHG, 2025).
Chinese partners including H World Group (formerly Huazhu) and Xinjiang Hualing Industry & Trade Group are implicated in forced labor through Xinjiang Aid programs, supplying Uyghur workers under compulsion.
Meanwhile, UHRP criticised major booking platforms, including Booking.com, Priceline, Agoda, Kayak, Expedia.com, Hotels.com, Orbitz, Travelocity, Trivago, and Tripadvisor continue to list Xinjiang hotels without reference to atrocities. The report urges international hotel chains and booking sites to withdraw from Xinjiang immediately.
As part of the report publication, in January 2025, UHRP sought Accor S.A., Inc., Hilton Hotels & Resorts, InterContinental Hotels Group, Marriott International Inc., and Wyndham Hotels & Resorts Inc. informing them that their company had been named in a forthcoming report. Follow-up communications were attempted in February 2025 and in both occasions no responses were received.
