The Uyghur Human Rights Sanctions Review Act of 2023 (S.585/H.R.1234)
The Uyghur Human Rights Sanctions Review Act of 2023 (S.585) was introduced in the Senate by Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) on March 1, 2023.
A companion bill in the House (H.R.1324) was introduced by Representative August Pfluger (R-TX) on March 1, 2023.
The bill:
- Requires the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury to make a determination within 60 days regarding sanctions eligibility for Hikvision, Tiandy, Dahua, Uniview, Shenzhen Huada Gene Technology (BGI Group), China Electronics Technology Group, Alibaba Group Holding, Baidu, ByteDance, and China TransInfo Technology.
- Requires the Secretary of the Treasury to impose sanctions on eligible companies, under the Global Magnitsky Human Rights Accountability Act, the Uyghur Human Rights Policy Act of 2020, or other authorities.
