The Indonesian Mosque Council (Prima) Youth Association of Mosques (DMI), together with the Indonesian Muslim Journalists Association (PJMI) held a discussion “Igniting Muslim Solidarity in Responding to Restraints on the Rights of Uyghur Muslims” in Jakarta, Wednesday.

Director of the Uyghur Human Rights Project, Omer Kanat, who presented via zoom, revealed that the news about the oppression of Uighur Muslims in a number of camps is true, but it was covered up by the Chinese Government, which claims that it is pursuing deradicalization activities and efforts to eradicate terrorism.

“There is an attempt to eradicate the identity of the Uyghur people. Saying “assalamu alaikum” alone is subject to punishment, or if the Quran is found in their house,” he said, joining the discussion from Washington DC, United States.

He revealed that there were 1,046 mosque imams arrested, and until now some of their whereabouts are unknown. “The world’s Muslim community must continue to move to voice the end of the oppression of Uyghur Muslims, don’t just be silent,” he said.
