Xinjiang celebrates its 70th anniversary under the watchful eye of Xi Jinping and a new political doctrine

No explicit statements were made regarding the repression and internment camps imposed on the Uyghur population since 2014, which have been regularly denounced by the Uyghur Human Rights Project (UHRP). A UHRP report dated April 25, 2024, states that one in 26 people in Xinjiang, primarily Uyghur or non-Han, were imprisoned in 2024, representing nearly a third of China’s total prison population. Yet, these same populations constitute only 1% of the national population.
