Program Assistant (Full-time, Hybrid)

Uyghur Human Rights Project (UHRP) 

The Uyghur Human Rights Project, a research-based 501c3 nonprofit, is seeking a highly organized self-starter to fill the position of Program Assistant. The position will assist the team with grant administration, office management, and financial administration, as well as providing support for UHRP’s programmatic work. This is a hybrid position based in Washington, DC. UHRP strives to maintain a diverse and welcoming work environment and welcomes applications from people from a variety of backgrounds.

Key responsibilities of the Program Assistant include:

Grant administration 

  • Coordinating grant reporting, including narrative and financial reports
  • Supporting development of grant proposals 

Office and financial administration

  • Ensuring smooth functioning of office systems, GoogleWorkspace, software subscriptions, and office equipment 
  • Working with an outside bookkeeping firm, to administer invoices, monthly account reconciliations, payroll, and budget projections
  • Maintaining donation records and issuing donation receipts

Programmatic support

  • Tracking activities and achievements for reports to donors and the Board of Directors
  • Supporting advocacy activities
  • UHRP welcomes candidates with a variety of skills and experience that can support UHRP research, communications and advocacy 

Qualifications:

  • Excellent written communication skills in English
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Ability to coordinate team efforts and ensure that deadlines are met
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace functions or willingness to obtain intensive training 
  • Ability to quickly gain competence in other software applications as needed 

Additional desirable qualifications (one or more):

  • One to three years’ experience in activist, non-profit or small business environments
  • Experience in grant administration and developing funding proposals
  • Experience in managing budgets and financial systems
