In recent months, several Uyghur detention camp survivors have managed to reach safety in democratic countries. UHRP has continuously urged governments around the world to provide safe refuge for Uyghurs abroad, who are at risk of being swept into the camps if forced to return to China.

UHRP has provided documentation and resettlement guarantees for several Uyghurs at risk of statelessness or deportation to China. One of those rescued reached safety today on an expedited basis.

“UHRP is very thankful to all governments that have taken serious steps, in cooperation with UHRP and other advocates, to help at-risk Uyghurs find safe refuge,” said UHRP Executive Director Omer Kanat.

The broader Uyghur diaspora is suffering acute psychological pain on a daily basis from the cultural genocide affecting their families and neighbors in East Turkistan. Every rescue is a godsend to a suffering people. The Uyghur community is deeply grateful to the governments that have gone to extraordinary lengths to save these individuals.
