Early next week in Beijing, the U.S. and China will hold its 8th Strategic and Economic Dialogue, the last of the Obama Administration

We write regarding the state visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping on September 24-25, 2015. Our organizations have worked to help promote and defend human rights in China for decades, and are deeply concerned by the significant erosions to rights during President Xi’s tenure.

We write on the occasion of the June 22-24, 2015 US-China Strategic & Economic Dialogue, to urge that this important bilateral meeting include an unequivocal message about China’s deteriorating human rights situation and lay the groundwork for human rights to be a significant component of the visit later this year of Chinese President Xi Jinping.
