Join the Committee for Freedom in Hong Kong (CFHK) Foundation, alongside co-sponsors UHRP, Luke Alliance, International Campaign for Tibet, and Campaign for Uyghurs, for a rally to stand up for freedom for political prisoners in China and Hong Kong ahead of the Trump-Xi Summit.
Date & Time: Monday, May 11, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.
Location: Lafayette Square (on H Street across from St. John’s)
Register here.
As President Trump prepares to meet Xi Jinping, we will gather in front of the White House to send a clear message: there should be no deals without freedom.
The Chinese Communist Party continues to jail people across China and Hong Kong for peaceful speech, independent journalism, political participation, religious belief, and human rights advocacy. We call on President Trump to use his meeting with Xi to fulfill his personal commitment to free Jimmy Lai and secure the release of all those unjustly detained across China, including Pastor Jin Mingri, Pastor Gao Quanfu, Dr. Gulshan Abbas, and lawyer Ding Jiaxi.
Join us for a peaceful, public rally featuring political prisoners’ families, advocates, and community voices standing in solidarity with those imprisoned for speaking truth.
The event is permitted by DC MPD. Please follow the organizer’s on-site guidance and respect any instructions related to public safety, access, and crowd movement. Registration is not required, but it helps us estimate attendance so we can better plan for the event and coordinate with law enforcement.
Speakers:
Rushan Abbas, sister of detained Uyghur doctor Gulshan Abbas
Rayhan Asat, sister of detained Uyghur entrepreneur Ekpar Asat
Sophie Luo, wife of detained human rights lawyer Ding Jiaxi
Gao Pu, son of detained Pastor Gao Quanfu and his wife, Pang Yu
Frances Hui, Policy and Advocacy Manager, CFHK Foundation
Tsejin Khando, Tibetan Empowerment Officer, International Campaign for Tibet
(More to be confirmed)
What should I bring?
You are welcome to bring signs carrying the message of the rally — freedom for political prisoners in China and Hong Kong — as well as information about political prisoners you wish to advocate for. Suggested slogans include: “Free Jimmy Lai / Ding Jiaxi / Dr. Gulshan Abbas / Pastor Jin Mingri / Pastor Gao Quanfu,” “Free Political Prisoners in China,” “No Deals Without Freedom,” “Trump: Press Xi to Free Prisoners,” “Journalism Is Not a Crime”
The rally is organized by CFHK Foundation, together with Luke Alliance, International Campaign for Tibet, Campaign for Uyghurs, and the Uyghur Human Rights Project — partner organizations and advocates standing in solidarity with political prisoners across Hong Kong and China. All media planning to attend should RSVP to media@thecfhk.org.
